Prioritizing the strategic modernization of the essential electrical systems in health care facilities is important.

This American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) monograph discusses the physical environment provisions of USP and is primarily intended for the use of health care facility managers. The USP Risk Readiness Checklist, created by the American Society for Health Care Risk Management (ASHRM), will assist users in identifying areas where opportunities exist to comply with USP required standards.

This monograph describes a literature study of the 886 requirements defined in ANSI/ASHE/ASHRAE Standard 170 Ventilation of Health Care Facilities to determine which requirements are supported by engineering and/or scientific evidence.

- In 2016, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) adopted new Conditions of Participation that incorporated the 2012 editions of NFPA 101 and NFPA 99. CMS recently provided ASHE with the following guidance on some frequently asked questions regarding the new CMS requirements.

ASHE’s “Life Safety Decommissioning Tool” breaks down a number of life safety features no longer required by code, as well as recommendations to either decommission or maintain these features.

Tuesday, July 16, 2019 Speakers: Dennis Ford, Mike Mango and Tyler Greenwood The Joint Commission is focusing on the certification process for pharmacy sterile compounding clean rooms in 2018-2019 surveys. The Central Division of Atrium Health was surveyed in 2018 and conducted a multidisciplinary review of requirements, roles, and responsibilities around clean rooms. This session presents a resulting road map to developing a program for continual certification.  

Monday, July 15, 2019 Speakers: Fran Charney and Mike Zorich ASHE and ASHRM have developed tools and resources to help members understand and implement USP <800> standards. The session covers physical environment compliance with the chapter and introduces a new ASHE monograph and ASHRM checklist (both available here), which will teach and guide readers through changes needed to keep patients, staff and visitors safe.
