An article was published in the March 2011 issue of Health Facilities Management magazine, which explored 10 forces changing health care design. In this session, the authors of that article present a current perspective on those driving forces. The opening statement of the article provocatively observed that "health care industry professionals who believe the political outcome of the reform debate, alone, will have a dramatic influence on the future of design and construction of health care facilities are sadly mistaken." The presenters discuss the evolution of the factors identified in the article and how they, and other challenges and opportunities, will continue to influence health care design.
