Criteria for serving on the ASHE Board

A MEMBER OF THE ASHE BOARD:

  • Sets policy for ASHE
  • Serves as a technical resource ASHE education programs, publications, advocacy efforts, and product development.
  • Provides leadership for committees and task forces.
  • Promotes and supports ASHE membership, products, and services.
  • Supports, represents, and communicates ASHE's mission and goals to others.
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with society bylaws, policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A BOARD MEMBER INCLUDE:

  • Committing time and expertise to attend all board meetings, the annual conference, and committee/task force meetings as assigned.
  • Representing the special needs of the associate members at the board level.
  • Considering and acknowledging the needs of the entire membership when carrying out decision-making responsibilities.

IN FULFILLING THESE DUTIES, THE BOARD MEMBER:

  • Serves a two-year term after which he/she is eligible for re-election (maximum of two successive terms).
  • Attends the board orientation and three board meetings per year, including the annual conference, and committee meetings as assigned (a time commitment of approximately four to five weeks per year).
  • Prepares written reports of activities for each board meeting.
  • Carries out projects as assigned by the ASHE president.

CANDIDATES MUST:

  • Be active in the field of facility management.
  • Have been a member of ASHE for at least three years.
  • Be in compliance with all provisions of the ASHE policies.
  • Have support from your organization’s leadership and must be able to complete a conflict of interest and nondisclosure statement.
  • Regional board members must be employed in the region they represent.

In addition to the candidate's ability to meet the basic eligibility requirements and carry out the fundamental duties of the job, the nominating committee will consider the candidate's level of ASHE involvement, their professional background, and their leadership qualities.
