The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has adopted the 2012 edition of NFPA 101. The 2012 edition contains a new chapter on rehabilitation projects in existing buildings. Chapter 43 covers repairs, renovations, modifications, reconstruction, change of use, and change of occupancy classification projects. With the amount of work that goes on in existing hospitals and other health care facilities, one needs to have a thorough understanding of the impact that Chapter 43 will have on such projects.
