Continual Survey Readiness – Not Just in The Healthcare Occupancy

Description
This presentation goes over the requirements of the life safety features and design for business occupancies. Accreditors are shifting back to an all-encompassing survey process to include business occupancies where services are provided to clients. The presentation will provide a basic understanding of requirements along with providing best practices to maintain a state of continual survey readiness.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the new The Joint Commission (TJC) Business Occupancy Chapter LS.05 Standards.
- Have a basic understanding of the NFPA 101, 2012 Business Occupancy Chapter.
- Identify fire protection system inspections and testing documentation for business occupancies.
- Discuss TJC’s survey process as it pertains to business occupancies.
- Briefly discuss ASHE’s “BOSS” Tool and how it can assist in continual survey readiness.
- Articulate the requirements for Life Safety Plans/Drawings for mixed occupancies on your campus.

Josh Childers brings more than ten years of facilities compliance and healthcare leadership. Before joining REMEDI8, Josh held the position of System Director of Environmental Safety, Security, Emergency Management, and Transportation & the systems Safety Officer. During his career, he’s overseen large health systems security teams, emergency/transport ambulance service, environmental health, and safety (EH&S), construction compliance, and served as The Joint Commission subject matter expert for the Environment of Care, Life Safety, and Emergency Management chapters. Josh has also served as a Firefighter/EMT for 13+ years, where he is certified through the State of Kentucky Fire Marshal’s Office as a Fire Prevention Inspector Level I & II. Josh maintains multiple industry certifications: Certified Life Safety Specialist for Health Care Facility Managers (CLSS-HC), Healthcare Facilities Foundation (HFF), and Certified Healthcare Contractor (CHC).
