Location, size, workforce, payment and access to capital challenge small or rural hospitals and the communities they serve. Collaborating with state and regional hospital associations and with advice from its member council, the Section tracks the issues, develops policies and identifies solutions to our most pressing problems.

Senate Deal Reached to End Government Shutdown

Over the weekend, senators reached a deal to reopen the government. The agreement includes a three-bill, full-year spending package for 1) the Department of Agriculture and Food and Drug Administration, 2) the Legislative Branch, and 3) the Defense Department construction projects and the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as a short-term continuing resolution to extend funding for the rest of the government until Jan. 30, 2026.

Advocacy Issue: Workplace Violence

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, health care workers across the nation have experienced a sharp increase in incidences of workplace violence, with no sign that this trend is receding. Despite the diligent efforts of hospitals and health systems to prevent violence, health care workers remain five times more likely than any other type of worker to be physically attacked on the job, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
