The Updated MECH Exam is Now Live
ASHE’s revised Mechanic Evaluation and Certification for Health Care (MECH) exam is officially available. This updated version reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring that MECH certification aligns with the most current knowledge, competencies, and best practices in the field.
The previous exam version was retired on January 25, 2026. All candidates testing from this point forward will take the updated MECH exam.
To support your success, updated preparation materials and study resources are now available. We encourage all candidates to review the new content outline and utilize the latest study tools as they prepare for certification.
Exam Scheduling and Readiness Review
The American Hospital Association Certification Center contracts with PSI to administer the MECH exam. Candidates can schedule their exam with PSI at an approved testing center or they can schedule a live-remote proctored exam with PSI. Learn more about testing logistics for the MECH exam.

If you qualify for VA benefits, you can get the cost of the MECH exam covered!
After you register and pay for the exam of your choice, fill out an Application for Reimbursement of Licensing or Certification Test Fees (VA Form 22-0803). Q. Where can I earn CECs for MECH/SRMECH renewal?
A: Here's a few ways CECs can be earned for MECH renewal. These are all free for ASHE members.
- Quick Trainings: free online courses. ASHE members can share these with their team.
- Schneider Electric University: take the technician learning path worth 25.5 CECs.
- HFM Magazine: ASHE members can earn free CECs by reading Health Facilities Management magazine and passing a quiz based on articles in each issue.
