Natural disasters may shut down towns and cities, but they can’t shut down the human spirit. And in hospitals throughout Puerto Rico ravaged by historic storms, the spirit of caring, curing and compassion has been reflected steadily thoughout these difficult times.

We have been in close coordination with the Puerto Rico Hospital Association as it works with its hospitals and local and federal agencies to respond and rebuild. We have offered assistance and will continue to provide support.

As part of our efforts, we have activated The Care Fund – www.thecarefund.net – to aid hospital employees in Puerto Rico affected by the storms.

For all who want to help facilitate the effort to do something … anything … to help, please consider a donation to The Care Fund. Many of your colleagues have lost their homes or suffered extreme damage to their homes and property. They, too, have to dig out from the hurricanes’ wake. The Care Fund is an opportunity for the hospital community to take care of its own … the hospital heroes who gave so much so that their patients would be safe.  Individual contributions are tax deductible and management costs are being donated so that 100% of what you give goes to those in need.

And that’s what hospitals … and the associations that represent them …. are all about: helping those in need.

No, disaster can’t shut down the human spirit. And nothing reflects that quite so brightly as the response to Hurricanes Irma and Maria by the women and men of Puerto Rico’s hospitals.
