Description
As hospitals prepare for 2027, energy markets continue to introduce new challenges for facilities and financial leaders. Growing electricity demand, changing capacity and transmission costs, natural gas market dynamics, utility rate increases and evolving infrastructure needs can all affect hospital operating budgets. Understanding these pressures is important, but knowing how to plan for them is equally critical.
Building on the fundamentals of utility cost management, this webinar will provide healthcare facilities professionals with a practical framework for evaluating energy market conditions, forecasting utility expenses and managing financial exposure. Through a hypothetical hospital case study, attendees will see how changes in energy consumption, commodity prices, delivery rates and capacity charges can impact a facility's overall budget—even when wholesale energy prices decline.
The session will explore energy procurement strategies, budget scenario planning, operational cost-management opportunities, and methods for communicating financial risks to executive leadership.
Attendees will leave with practical tools to evaluate their organization's energy risks, improve budget forecasts and identify actionable priorities for 2027.
After participating in this webinar, attendees will be able to:
- Identify the primary electricity, natural gas, capacity, transmission and utility rate developments affecting healthcare energy costs and financial exposure heading into 2027.
- Evaluate electricity and natural gas procurement strategies, contractual obligations and operational considerations to distinguish controllable costs from market-dependent financial risks.
- Develop utility budget scenarios using consumption forecasts, commodity and delivery-rate assumptions, contractual price protection, and anticipated facility operating changes.
- Apply a structured energy planning and risk assessment framework to identify organizational readiness gaps, prioritize corrective actions and communicate budget risks and recommendations to financial and executive leadership.
