Description
Hospitals face rising energy costs, aging systems, and increasing demand for sustainability and decarbonization. ASHE’s Energy to Care benchmarking shows that while hospitals have reduced consumption, energy costs have risen 13-18% since 2018 across most climate zones. Steam and thermal systems are among the largest contributors to inefficiency, energy waste, and operational cost, but also represent one of the highest ROI opportunities for improvement.
In partnership with Spirax Sarco, this webinar explores how hospital facilities teams can apply ASHE recommended Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) to steam and thermal systems, including steam trap management, condensate recovery, distribution system optimization, digital monitoring, and full system thermal energy assessments. Participants will see how these solutions support Energy to Care goals, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower operating costs, improve reliability, and enhance sustainability performance.
Learning Outcomes
Attendees will learn how hospital facilities, engineering and operations teams can:
- Identify ASHE aligned Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) that deliver the greatest energy savings in steam and thermal systems like steam trap surveys, insulation upgrades, condensate return improvement, and boiler house optimization.
- Learn how to calculate the true cost of steam including fuel costs, enthalpy values, boiler efficiency, feedwater temperature, blowdown losses, and chemical treatment to link these calculations to savings opportunities such as condensate recovery and steam trap repair.
- Explain how steam system performance impacts EUI, ECI, water use, and greenhouse gas emissions, and the role steam plays in both operational efficiency and sustainability performance.
- Evaluate digital tools for energy monitoring and optimization, including thermal energy analytics, remote steam trap monitoring, and data driven insight platforms that support continuous improvement and preventative maintenance plans.
- Develop a staged roadmap to decarbonization, starting with basic energy efficiency, moving through thermal optimization and audits, and ultimately exploring electrification ready steam solutions and net zero strategies.
