Healthcare facilities are now striving to meet the needs of all patients and caregivers to offer not only healthy and safe spaces, but inclusive spaces that can be repurposed, quickly. This course reviews innovations in plumbing design and how these designs support trending healthcare needs, such as infection prevention, behavioral healthcare, bariatric, and ADA patients. Additionally, this course will engage you in learning about a flexible, water saving and infection control enhancing plumbing trend called “vacuum plumbing”. Learn through cases studies on how vacuum plumbing has provided “future proofing” for healthcare facilities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the design trends that benefit patients’ mental and physical health and which ones can be addressed through plumbing design.
  • Discuss how proper dialysis plumbing design can protect the patient from infection and at the same time reduce plumbing construction costs.
  • Define how plumbing fixture design and hand hygiene can address hospital acquired infections.
  • Discuss TJC’s survey process as it pertains to business occupancies.
  • Learn how plumbing design can reduce infection, reduce water consumption and “future proof” your healthcare facility.
