With a focus on creating a patient-centered, healing environment, CallisonRTKL’s design of the new 8-level inpatient pavilion at Vassar Brothers Medical Center (VBMC) in Poughkeepsie, NY, is centered around bringing clarity, flexibility and longevity to the campus. The new pavilion will become a destination for worldclass care, the flagship for Nuvance Health and a long-lasting landmark for the Hudson Valley community.
The addition boasts 290 private patient rooms and a new emergency department, loading dock, central plant expansion, interventional suite, conference center, cafe, helipad and lobby.
CallisonRTKL designed VBMC with a focus on sustainability and concentrated on aggressive energy- and water-efficiency prerequisites. VBMC demonstrates its goal of serving the community and offering world-class care for the long term by incorporating a 20% water use reduction target, solar shading on the west-facing facade, stormwater management, reduction in surface parking, vegetated roofs, accessible outdoor space and overall energy savings with a reduction in building usage.
