Our Project
RWJBarnabas Health has partnered with FCA to implement a significant capital improvement plan in parallel with campus-wide planning initiatives intended to transform the Newark Beth Israel (NBI) Medical Center into an inviting, community-focused anchor for the surrounding neighborhoods. The projects that FCA has completed touch many parts of the facility: the main lobby, central registration, administration, emergency department, critical care unit, operating room and radiology. The design language was created to be scalable across these different spaces — thematic elements are bright and translucent, reflecting the openness of the organization. The luminance is additionally a branding element, clearly identifiable from afar. The idea of “frames” was introduced to create focal points at specific program elements, such as the reception desk and cafe, which is then applied to the patient-focused spaces. The quality of finishes reflects NBI's high standards for comprehensive care and education.
