Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
The CDC is one of the major operating components of the Department of Health and Human Services. CDC’s mission is to protect America from health, safety, and security threats, both foreign and in the United States. The CDC has several initiatives that support the health care physical environment—including a three-year initiative announced in 2015 that aims to improve infection control and prevention through better facility design.

This document was published in 2003 with updated guidance for environmental infection control in hospitals for Ebola virus issued on August 1, 2014. The document references pertinent guidelines and standards from the Facility Guidelines Institute and ASHRAE.

Population health is supported by CDC's Built Environment and Health Initiative, also known as the Healthy Community Design Initiative. The project aims to improve design through education, research, and sharing best practices.
