The Joint Commission will emphasize management of clinical alarms starting Jan. 1, 2016, as part of its National Patient Safety Goal on clinical alarms. To comply with Joint Commission requirements, hospitals and critical access hospitals need to establish and implement policies and procedures for managing clinical alarms. ASHE members are encouraged to share this information with their clinical, risk management, and engineering team to make sure they are prepared to meet this requirement.

Hospitals encouraged to review security plans after Paris attacks

A group coordinating preparedness activities for the Department of Health and Human Services are urging hospitals to review and exercise their security plans after the recent terrorist attacks in Paris. The group is also providing resources on security, such as active shoot planning resources. 

 

ASHE launches new website design

ASHE has redesigned its website so that it is easier to navigate and more mobile-friendly. The new site uses easier-to-read text and a more responsive design to make it easy to access information from smart phones. The website was also reorganized to make it easier for members to find the information they need.

 

Recognizing health care’s behind-the-scenes heroes

During National Health Care Facilities & Engineering Week last week, ASHE and many other organizations used social media to spread the word about the important work performed by health care facility professionals. Many facility managers, engineers, architects, and constructors participated in ASHE’s social media challenge, where we asked members to post about why facility professionals are behind-the-scenes heroes.
