Health Care Facility Management Training™

ASHE’s Health Care Facility Management Training is now available as a customizable hosted program. This intensive program can cover one or up to four main areas that mirror the domains of the Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) exam as outlined in the CHFM Handbook:
- Advanced Compliance
- Advanced Planning Design and Construction (PDC)
- Advanced Maintenance and Operations
- Finance and Administration
This module covers compliance requirements for health care facilities. If feasible, a tour of the facility where the module takes place will be used as a training tool for managing visits and inspections by authorities having jurisdiction.
The topics discussed will include topics from the compliance portion of the content outline in the CHFM Handbook, including codes and standards, authorities having jurisdiction, Joint Commission compliance, risk assessment principles, managing fire and life safety, interim life safety measures, hazardous materials, medical equipment, safety and security, documentation, and more.
Advanced Planning Design and Construction (PDC)
This module covers topics from the PDC portion of the outline in the CHFM Handbook. Topics covered include construction risk assessments, infection control, strategic and functional programming, budgets and cost estimates, project delivery methods, schedules, negotiating contracts, change order requests, coordination, space programming, infrastructure needs, managing shutdowns, commissioning, and more.
Advanced Maintenance and Operations
This module covers a maintenance and operations requirements for health care facilities. If feasible, a tour of the facility where the module takes place will be used as a training tool for assessing operational requirements and needs.
The topics discussed will include topics from the Maintenance and Operations portion of the outline in the CHFM Handbook, including service proposals and alternatives, emergency management, energy savings options, energy benchmarking, maintenance management, managing repair supplies, engineering information systems, HVAC systems, medical gas systems, steam and hot water generation systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, safety and security systems, the building envelope, scheduling maintenance, utility shutdowns, maintaining documentation, cost management, staffing, and more.
Finance and Administration
This module ties together principles from previous sessions, using data and financial analysis principles to make accurate facility management decisions. If feasible, the participants will bring data from their own facilities that will be used to practice benchmarking, financial analysis and administration skills.
The topics discussed will include topics from the Finance and Administration portions of the outline in the CHFM Handbook. Topics discussed include contract administration, project payback, return on investment, net present value, life cycle cost analysis, facility condition index (FCI), energy purchase analysis, budgeting, bids for equipment and services, long range capital improvement plans, justification of needs and purchases, labor distribution, training staff, managing multiple functions, prioritizing projects, human resources functions, and more.
The last portion of this workshop will include practice in answering questions based on the material presented in all of the modules. The participants will use an electronic audience response system to answer questions, and will be able to compare their response to that of the rest of the group. Please note that these questions will NOT be CHFM exam questions. They may be similar in format, and they will pertain to the topics listed in the outline in the CHFM Handbook.
