Life Safety Code Comparison
Michael A. Crowley, PE, FASHE and Jeffrey E. Harper, PE
Many factors influence whether a health care organization choose to apply the most recent edition of NFPA 101: Life Safety Code® to a project. This monograph provides an exhaustive list of the differences between the 2012 edition of NFPA 101: Life Safety Code® and the 2000 and 2009 editions, as well as the 2015 edition of the International Building Code. The goal is to help readers determine the best course for their facility. The monograph also provides guidance on how to request the use of the 2015 edition through the waiver and equivalency process.
NOTE: This monograph was updated in March 2017 to reflect new Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation that required compliance with the 2012 edition of NFPA 101.
