Tim AdamsTim Adams, CHFM, SASHE is the Director of Member Professional Development for the American Society for Healthcare Engineering working in the areas of advocacy, code and standard compliance and education. Prior to joining the ASHE Staff, Tim spent over 20 years working in and with hospitals in the areas of Clinical Engineering and Facilities Management, the last 15 years with Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington, Indiana. He is a long term faculty member for ASHE educational programs and is a frequent speaker at ASHE and other regional and national conferences.

Tim is a Past President of the Indiana Society for Healthcare Engineering (ISHE) and the Indiana Biomedical Society (IBS). He is a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) and a Senior ASHE Member (SASHE).


Leo M. GehringLeo M. Gehring, CHFM, FASHE
Gehring Health Facility Resources

Leo Gehring has invested over 40 years in teaching, consulting and operating in the healthcare facilities and construction. In addition to Gehring Health Facility Resources, he serves as a member of the ASHE Faculty teaching in the Certified Healthcare Facility Manager, Healthcare Construction Certificate and the Healthcare Construction Project Management programs. He also serves as a Senior Staff Consultant for Safety Management Services (SMS) and a Senior Advisor for Advanced Technologies Group (ATG).

He was a Consultant for Joint Commission Resources specializing in helping healthcare teams reach successful performance levels in the Environment of Care, Life Safety and Emergency Management standards.

He retired in September 2008 as the Vice Chancellor for Campus Operations at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where he was a member of the Executive Management team serving on the Chancellor’s Cabinet.

Prior to joining the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences he formed Gehring Healthcare Enterprises. The firm provided management system development; compliance assessment and environment of care management consulting to healthcare delivery organizations and to healthcare service support companies. He authored a monthly JCAHO survey strategies column for Facility Care magazine.

Prior to Gehring Healthcare Enterprises, Leo was the Director of Facilities Management for the University of Chicago Hospitals.

He served in the United States Army Medical Department and rose from the rank of Private to CWO-3 over 20-year period. Assignments included positions at unit and command levels as Chief, Medical Maintenance in the United States and Europe. Was awarded the Legion of Merit and inducted into the Order of Military Medical Merit.

He was elected President of the Arkansas Association for Hospital Engineering in 1992 and in 2000 he was elected to serve as the Region Seven Board of Directors member for ASHE. He was elected as the 2007 President of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering.

He became a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) in 2001 and a Fellow (FASHE) in the American Society of Healthcare Engineering in 2007. (3/5/2010)


Kenneth A. MonroeKenneth A. Monroe, P.E., is an independent Healthcare Project Executive, Program and Project Manager. Ken has over 30 years of experience in project management and mechanical engineering including experience in facilities management and project management at several Chicago area hospitals, UHHS in Cleveland and various military healthcare institutions. He has worked on all sides of healthcare facilities: owner's representative, project manager, facility manager, design team director and general contractor. He is registered in the State of Illinois as a Professional Engineer.

Ken is a frequent speaker on project management and taught project management at the Keller Graduate School of Business for several years. He is an active member of numerous professional associations, including ASHE, PMI and ASHRAE. (01/23/2009)


Ed TinsleyEd Tinsley is an Executive Managing Principal and Chairman of the Board for TME, Inc., headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas.  Mr. Tinsley is a Registered Professional Engineer, a Registered Technical Analyst, a LEED® Accredited Professional, a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), a Certified ASHRAE Healthcare Facility Design Professional (HFDP), a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) and a Member of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) Faculty.

Mr. Tinsley has more than 25 years of experience in facilities engineering both as a consultant and as a representative of the building owner for hospital, university, commercial and industrial clients. During his career, Mr. Tinsley has specialized in the field of energy conservation.

Mr. Tinsley has won 8 energy awards from ASHRAE, Inc., for projects he has designed or managed. He has also been presented with two Presidential Awards for Leadership in Federal Energy Management; one in October 2003; and one in October 2006. Additionally in 2009, he also received an Engineering Excellence Award in the category of Building and Technology Systems from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). Mr. Tinsley was recently presented with the 2010 Crystal Eagle Award by the American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE). (10/2010)


John WoodJohn Wood, CHFM, SASHE has worked in all facets of healthcare facilities management (maintenance, safety, design & construction) holding several key leadership roles in healthcare throughout his career as:

  • Administrative Director of Facilities at Mercy Medical Center Roseburg, Oregon; a Catholic Healthcare Initiatives hospital, 2007 - 2009.
  • Director of Facilities Services at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center, a for-profit Triad Hospital, 2005 - 2007.
  • Regional Director of Facilities Services for Kaiser Permanente's Northwest Region a large non-profit Health Maintenance Organization, 1988 - 2004.
  • Facilities Supervisor at Bess Kaiser Medical Center, 1981 - 1988.

John was the 2008 President and Chairman of the Board of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering. He has also served as the elected Chapter President's of other professional facilities management associations, including IFMA, Oregon Society for Healthcare Engineers and is past Region 10 Director for ASHE encompassing the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii and Alaska.

John now provides consulting and project management to the healthcare industry as the independent owner of Facilities Management Services. He is a Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager and a Senior Member of ASHE. (3/4/2009)
