Frequently Asked Questions

How do I vote online?
Beginning Monday, August 1, you can follow the instructions below to cast your vote.

  1. Log in to the election system by either 1) clicking the “Vote Now” link in the email you will be receiving from our election management company or 2) go to and enter your ASHE member ID and last name.
  2. Review each candidate’s profile. Select your candidate, scroll to the bottom of the page to review your selections, and then click the green “Submit your Vote” button to proceed.
  3. In addition, members in Regions 3, 6, 7, 8 and 10 will vote for their Regional Director. On each page, once you click “Submit your Vote”, your selections for that page will be submitted and you will not be allowed to make any changes.
  4. This year, you will also be able to vote on shifting the ASHE bylaws to policies.
  5. You will have the option to print a receipt for your cast vote.

How do I see a candidate’s information?
Click on the links below each of the candidate’s names. The candidate information will be displayed on the right side of the screen. Candidate information will also be available on the ASHE website once the election opens on Monday, August 1, 2017.

How do I learn about the bylaws change?
An explanation of the change, a side-by-side comparison of the bylaws and new policies, and a short video explaining the change are available on the ASHE election webpage.

Why did I receive an error message when I entered my number?
If you receive an error message that says, “The ID you entered is incorrect,” please check your membership number and reenter it. If applicable, be sure to include all leading zeros in your ID number.

If you receive an error message that says, “A vote has already been recorded for this membership number,” that means that you have already voted. You cannot vote more than once.

Am I eligible to vote?
You are eligible to vote if you are an active, dues-paying Professional, Associate, Positional (e.g., VA), Lifetime, or Retired member. (Your ASHE membership must be confirmed as of Wednesday, July 14, 2017, for you to be eligible to vote.)

Please enter your 10-digit ASHE membership number (including any leading zeros).

Your membership ID number can be found on the e-mail or letter that was sent to you. Your membership number is also included in each week’s issue of the ASHE Insider e-newsletter. Your password is your last name (e.g., John Smith’s password would be Smith). The password is not case-sensitive.

I cannot access the online ballot. How do I vote?
If for any reason, you are unable to vote online, you can vote by mail using a paper ballot. The deadline to request a ballot is Friday, July 21, 2017. Paper ballots must be received by Friday, August 25, 2017.

PLEASE NOTE: Once you elect to vote by paper ballot, your access to online voting will be removed.

How many candidates can I vote for?
You may cast no more than one (1) vote for the 2018 President-Elect. The candidate with the most votes will become the President in 2019. You may select only one (1) Associate Member candidate. Members in Regions 3, 6, 7, 8 and 10 will also vote for their Regional Director.

Will I get a chance to review my selections?
Yes, at the bottom of each page of the ballot you can review your selections for that page. Once you hit “Submit your Vote," your vote for that page is cast and cannot be changed.

Is my ballot confidential?
Yes. ASHE staff members do not have access to online voting records. Paper ballots, however, are manually entered into the online system by the Elections Secretary. A third-party contractor, Association Elections, then reviews and confirms the ballots and independently tallies the winners. The ASHE staff does not have access to voting trends during the voting cycle.

When does voting close?
Online voting closes at 11:59 p.m. (CT) Friday, September 1, 2017. Paper ballots must be received by Friday, August 25, 2017.

When will the results be announced?
The results of the ASHE election will be communicated to the membership in the September 12, 2017, issue of the ASHE Insider as well as in the Winter issue of Inside ASHE.

If you have any questions about the online elections process, please contact Sharon Autrey by e-mail at or via phone at 312-422-3800.
