I started my Healthcare career in 1984 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma, Washington, for Franciscan Health Systems (FHS), as a Maintenance Engineer.
In 1995 I accepted the position as Facility Manager at St. Anthony Hospital, in Pendleton, Oregon, another FHS facility. During my tenure there, we transitioned to a Critical Access Facility.
I joined ASHE in 1998 and OSHE (Oregon Society for Healthcare Engineering), the following year. A few years later, I was elected to the OSHE Board as Eastern Oregon Director.
In 2005, I left for Pueblo Colorado to take the position of Director of Facilities at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital. During my time in Colorado, I was elected to the Board of Directors for Colorado Association for Healthcare Directors and Engineers (CAHED).

I took my current position as Director of Facilities Management at Sky Lakes Medical Center, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, in 2009. I immediately rejoined OSHE, and within a couple of years was again elected to the Board as Southern Oregon Director.

In 2013, I was elected OSHE President. During my tenure, we made some major steps to become a Platinum Level Chapter, which we accomplished the following year.
I have been very active within ASHE not only attending annual conferences and the Chapter Leadership Forums from 2012 – 2016.  I was selected as ASHE’s Region 10 Emerging Leader in 2014, which has enabled me to attend ASHE Leadership Institute, and I have one session remaining. Also, my facility is an E2C/Sustainability Roadmap Ally. I have been on multiple ASHE Task Force Committees, and am currently on the ASHE Member Value Task Force.
Along with my involvement with ASHE and OSHE, I have been an active leader in my community. I have been heavily involved with youth sports as a coach, an umpire for Little League to American Legion Baseball. I have served as Little League President, Little League District Safety Officer, UIC (Umpire in Charge), and Assistant District Administrator. I have also served in the Kiwanis Club, and was honored with the Distinguished President’s award.

Personal Letter

Region 10 ASHE Members:

My name is Rick McGuffey, and I am running for ASHE Region 10 Director.

I started my Healthcare career in 1984, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Tacoma, WA.  I first became involved with The Oregon Society for Healthcare Engineering after accepting a Facilities Manager’s position at St. Anthony Hospital, in Pendleton OR., in 1995. What an eye opener and wonderful resource OSHE has been for me!

After becoming a member of both OSHE and ASHE, I realized how much I didn’t know. Both of these organizations have been instrumental in understanding the issues that we as health care facilities managers, are faced with on a daily basis. Additionally, they play a primary role in keeping members up to date with the ever changing codes, as well their interpretations. These resources have been essential to my growth as a leader.

With everything that I have been able to learn over the years, I want to be able to help others by giving back and being a resource to the industry that has given me so much. I believe I can represent you as your Region 10 Director with an open mind, compassion, and dedication the positon deserves.

As you read my biography, which can be found on the ASHE Website, you will see that over the years I have put in a lot of time and effort with the organizations I have been associated with. I commit to you today that I will bring the same level of dedication and enthusiasm as I have in all of my other positions in serving you as ASHE Region 10 Director.

Please vote for me, Rick McGuffey for Region 10 Director.

Thank you,

Rick McGuffey
