Tim Adams, FASHE, CHFM, CHC, is the director of member professional development for the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) and is involved in the areas of education, code and standard compliance, and advocacy. Tim has nearly 25 years of experience in the health care physical environment and compliance, with more than 20 years working directly with hospitals in the areas of clinical engineering and facilities management. He represents ASHE members on advocacy issues, and is a long-term faculty member for ASHE educational programs as well as a frequent speaker at ASHE and other regional and national conferences. Tim is a former president of the Indiana Society for Healthcare Engineering (ISHE) and the Indiana Biomedical Society (IBS).

Gordon D. Burrill, P.Eng., FASHE, CHFM, CHC, spent 13 years as a design engineer, followed by seven years as the director of the engineering for New Brunswick Health Authority in Canada before beginning work at Teegor Consulting Inc. in August 2004. He is a Registered Professional Engineer with 25 years of experience in the design, construction, operations, and maintenance of health care facilities. He is a member of the Standing Committee on Building and Plumbing Systems to the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes; a member of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering; a member of the National Fire Protection Association’s Health Care Section; a former Council Member of the International Federation for Hospital Engineers; and former president of the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society. Gordon is currently the vice-chair of the Canadian Standards Association’s Technical Committee for Health Care Facility Engineering and Physical Plant; chair of their Technical Subcommittee for Infection Control during Construction, Renovation, or Maintenance of Health Care Facilities; and vice-chair of their Technical Subcommittee for Design and Construction of Canadian Healthcare Facilities.


York ChanYork Chan, CHFM, CHC

York Chan, CHFM, CHC, has amassed 32 years of progressive management experience in health facilities operations. Presently, he is the administrator of facilities for Advocate Health Care, overseeing facilities operations for the system of 12 acute care hospitals in Illinois. He served as a board member of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) from 2008 through 2012. He currently serves as a board member for the Healthcare Engineering Society of Northern Illinois (the local ASHE chapter). York is a Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager as well as a Certified Healthcare Constructor. York has served as faculty for the Joint Commission Resources and taught the "Environment of Care Base Camp" and “Exploring the Life Safety Chapter” programs. He has also conducted custom education sessions for the Department of Defense, Veterans Administration, and numerous health care organizations throughout the United States. He has also served as faculty for the Joint Commission Satellite Network (JCSN) and the Joint Commission Resources Quality and Safety Network teaching internet, satellite, and web-based environment of care programs.

Steve Spaanbroek, MBA, SASHE, CHFM, CHC, has more than 20 years of experience in the health care market, and focuses primarily on regulatory compliance consulting in multi-service health care facilities across the country. Steve has chaired and served on numerous committees with ASHE. Steve’s areas of expertise include health care facilities management, environmental issues, Life Safety Code®, construction planning, safety, risk assessment, performance improvement, and emergency preparedness.
