Banner Baywood Medical Center New Bedtower, Central Plant & Interior Remodel
Mesa, AZ
A hospital in a rapidly growing region, Banner Baywood Medical Center had a backlog for patient beds and general need to expand capacity of infrastructure and clinical spaces. Westlake Reed Leskowsky helped them look comprehensively at their campus, accomplishing a major expansion addressing capacity, wayfinding and department adjacencies. The project included a bedtower with a new main lobby and drop off area as well as registration, dischage, gift shop and new dining area, a 28-bed CCU/ICU unit, a 26-bed medical-surgical nursing unit, pharmacy expansion and cardio-pulmonary unit, imaging wing, extensive renovation of the existing bedtower, 640-space parking garage, new central plant and materials management building. The overriding objective behind the work was to create a user-friendly environment of healing through use of naturla light and rich colors and textures and provide a gracious flow of patients, visitors, and materials within a tight, urban campus characterized by zoning and parking limitations.

Debra Ann November Wing, Lerner School for Autism at Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital
Shaker Heights, OH
The Cleveland Clinic commissioned Westlake Reed Leskosky to design a center for people with Autism. Pre-K through young adults are served by the facility. The design involved extensive research and quantifying observations from staff based upon past experience to produce evidence-based design solutions supporting behavioral and sensory progress. The facility integrates clinical, and educational needs within a long-term rehabilitation setting, a unique precedent-setting model of care. Suites based upon age group contain resources for each classroom, allowing teachers and clinicians, such as speech pathologist and individual thrapists to interact. Linked by a central corridor, classrooms access group areas such as dining, therapy, gross motor and training/activity rooms within a hightly organized, safe environment. Distractions, including those from pattern, clutter, acoustics, lighting, indoor air quality and temperature are minimized. Technology/communication systems designed the Westlake Reed Leskosky allow classroom observation from a remote location and staff to communicate needs within a classroom easily.
