Inova Life with Cancer Family Center
Mesa, AZ
The Inova Health System's Life with Cancer program aims to help enhance quality of life by providing free education, information, and support to cancer patients and their families. Wilmot Sanz has been working to design the Family Center as a new home for this program. Located in Fairfax, Virginia, this stand-alone facility has been designed with a strong residential character to provide a non-clinical, nurturing environment. The natural setting for the center will be enhanced by landscaped healing gardens and areas for outdoor functions.
Within the 16,690 sf building's two stories and basement are rooms for art therapy, meditation, counseling, reading, exercise, diet education, digital information resources and community meeting spaces. There are also rooms for the popular Complimentary Therapy programs, Once complete in early 2009, Inova's Life with Cancer Family Center will consolidate the program's functions and facilitate its goal of helping people face the many challenges of this disease.

Provena St. Joseph Hospital - Addition & Renovation Project
Elgin, IL
The addition and renovation project at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, IL consists of a new four-story patient tower that houses 99 all-private medical-surgical beds. A new main lobby and space for cardiac testing and administration are featured on the first floor. The design also includes an airy, two-story dining room and a fresh renovation of the doctors'lounge.
As part of the project, Wilmot Sanz designed a major renovation of the existing critical care unit and the surgery department, adding five surgical rooms and three catheterization labs, including one hybrid OR/cath lab. This innovative room allows for a quick transition between catheterization and urgent surgery. The imaging department was also totally remodeled. After construction was completed, the new patient tower opened in April2008.
