Kaiser Permanente Palm Court II

Palm Court II is a 197,000 sf, renovation of warehouse space to a two level high density building with 17 departments, including three call centers that support a large healthcare service area for Kaiser Permanente. The space was designed to a create a community with distinct identities that support the Kaiser Permanente branding while also imparting a sense of human scale, warmth and local friendliness to an otherwise very large and impersonal space. The concept imagines that this project is truly a local community or metaphorical village made up of its own internal “streets” connecting the various neighborhoods, parks and community centers. It is at this community level where staff can relate to their daily surroundings in finding a sense of place, belonging, and well-being through the many layers of the design components.
Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine

The Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine is a 22,000 sf healing environment interior renovation that was shaped by using Building Information Modeling. The project expands the Center’s services, which offers conventional medical services combined with alternative complementary therapies, and adds new centers for Health and Healing, Life Enhancement, and Fitness. The original design concept of the Center is based on sacred geometry which is prevalent in the spirals of a nautilus shell used throughout the existing space. This concept was expanded to include the shapes, forms and colors of the underwater ocean and ocean waves. The architect, interior design and MEP team collaboratively used BIM which allowed extensive modeling to ensure that the elaborate design features could be built within the restrictive existing space. The BIM process proved to be a successful integration of conventional planning and new modeling tools to completely transform the space into a new center for healing.
