John C. Lincoln ED and Trauma
A family-focused Level I Trauma Center in Phoenix, integrates Evidence Based Principles into the collaborative design. Like many metropolitan medical centers, significant increases in ER visits prompted John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital to construct a new 60,000 sf facility with specific measurable goals. Issues surrounding patient privacy, staff travel, acoustics and patient wait times were evaluated to develop design criteria that would continually question the impact of the physical environment on performance and satisfaction.
The result: four trauma rooms, four major treatment rooms, 22 emergency treatment rooms and seven fast track rooms (for a total of 37), protect patient privacy and increase comfort through indirect lighting (to reduce glare on patients, beds and gurneys), the use of natural colors/elements and an effective flow plan (including separate entry points). Which, in turn offer a balance of 1) stress reduction on the part of patient and staff and, 2) a faster, more efficient throughput.
