Pomerado Hospital

Palomar Pomerado Health (PPH), California’s largest public hospital district, is implementing a districtwide
upgrade and replacement project. A confluence of factors including an increasing population and demand in the area, site constraints and aging infrastructure of the existing facilities, and need to improve the market position of PPH drove the need to pursue the districtwide
upgrade/replacement project. Pomerado Hospital, one part of the upgrade project, consists of extending the existing ancillary hospital building by 31,000 sf while renovating 49,000 sf of it, adding new 147,000 sf, 96 bed patient tower, 172,000 sf outpatient services building and 1,200 car parking garage. It was important to PPH that Pomerado Hospital more adeptly reflect their vision for healthcare while becoming emblematic of the future of healthcare delivery. Patient-centered care, advanced technology and hospitality inspired aesthetics were key drivers of the project design.
Intermountain Medical Center

Intermountain Medical Center is 1.2 million square foot flagship medical center that comprises five centers of excellence (Womens and Newborns, Tertiary Trauma, Heart & Lung, Ambulatory Care and Oncology). Intermountain Healthcare wanted unified campus that recognized the distinct identities of each care center of excellence while embracing common shared identity that reinforced the brand of Intermountain Healthcare. The design team responded in kind, creating design parti that organized the five pillars along central concourse that links the centers through public spaces. By deconstructing the medical center into five pillars of excellence, the design creates an intimate, humanscaled environment that makes the large hospital more accessible and lends more personal approach to healthcare for the patient and their family, offering private spaces for retreat and introspection and social spaces to foster community and connection.
