2008 Building & Design Awards Presented at Health Planning and Construction Conference

CHICAGO—March 10, 2008—The American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association (AHA) announced the 2008 Vista Award recipients today during the 2008 International Conference and Exhibition on Health Facility Planning, Design and Construction™ (PDC) in Orlando.  Established in 1993, the Vista Award is a national mark of distinction and honor, recognizing the importance of teamwork in the healthcare design and building environment in three categories: new construction, renovation and infrastructure.

The following organizations are the 2008 recipients of the award for their respective category:

New Construction - Fairbanks Imaging Center, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital/Denali Center, Banner Health in Fairbanks, Alaska.

  • Presented to an organization that has constructed a new facility essentially from the ground up.  The new facility may be connected to an existing facility, but the building must have its own identity and be a new space.

Renovation - Center for Advanced Care, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill.

  • Presented to an organization that has altered the existing conditions or added new space to existing structures.  The original building envelope remains essentially intact.

Infrastructure - Luther Midelfort Central Energy Plant, Luther Midelfort Mayo Health Systems in Eau Claire, Wis.

  • Presented to an organization that has modified or replaced major portions of the utility generation, distribution or control systems involving significant project planning.

“As a previous Vista recipient, I know first-hand the amount of work it takes to prepare and submit an application and I want to commend all participants,” said Leo Gehring, CHFM, SASHE, 2007 ASHE president and chair of this year’s Vista Award Task Force.  “Each entry represents a ‘win’ for the communities and patients served by these outstanding facilities.”
