ASHE Launches This New Hospital DVD as Part of the Healthcare Construction Television Supporting Hospital Construction Projects

CHICAGO—May 1, 2008—The American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) and the American Hospital Association (AHA) today announced the launch of Healthcare Construction Television (HCTV). HCTV will grow to to be a series of educational videos providing hospital facility managers with visual resources to help them educate hospital managers and workers on the unique challenges of safely and effectively conducting construction projects within the healthcare environment.

As part of this new venture, ASHE, in conjunction with AHA, will release the first DVD in the HCTV series, This New Hospital, in May. A complimentary copy of This New Hospital will be sent to all ASHE members and to the CEOs of all AHA member hospitals. This New Hospital walks you through all the phases of a construction project from the planning to the occupancy phase. This program details the impact that renovation and construction has on a hospital including patients, visitors and staff. This New Hospital provides the viewer with an insider’s tour of what it truly takes to keep a hospital operational as the healing environment is renovated.

Designed to educate hospital managers and workers who are not generally involved in the planning design and construction (PDC) process, this 30-minute DVD is a training resource for a healthcare facility manager’s. By sharing this DVD with all individuals who are involved or impacted by the PDC process, viewers gain insights on what they can expect during the PDC process and how their input is needed to keep construction projects under budget and on-time.

“Hospital construction and renovation is a complex and costly process with potential risks to workers and patients if the project is not planned and managed well,” said Dale Woodin, SASHE, CHFM, ASHE’s Executive Director. “HCTV offers valuable tools to help facility managers, nurses, physicians, infection control professionals, administrators and all hospital workers touched by the construction process a clear understanding of the PDC process, thus leading to better projects and better healing environments.”
