Lemay Campus
1024 Lemay
Ft. Collins, CO 80524
Construction began on the Lemay Campus of the Poudre Valley Health System in the 1920s and the campus has grown gradually through the years to its current size of 850,000 sq. ft. and 236 beds. Our mission is to provide innovative, high quality, comprehensive care to the people of northern Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming and to exceed customer expectations.
As members of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), we became interested in improving the energy performance of our campus by taking part in the Healthcare Energy Project (HEP). Since then, we've used ENERGY STAR as a benchmark to continually improve our efficiency.
To date, steps we've taken to improve the efficiency of our campus include:
- Upgrading our lighting to T-8 and electronic ballasts while remodeling and expanding
- Installing LED exit signs
- Overhauling two of our chillers. In one case we found that one of our chilled loops was installed backwards just by fixing that, we netted a 4-5% boost in efficiency
- Overhauling three boilers
- Repairing holes above the ceiling and fire-stopping, making the building much tighter
- Training staff on solving energy efficiency problems while on the job
Our campus' performance is tracked through usage information provided by the city of Fort Collins, CO and through the billing process. We're currently in the process of building an entirely new hospital and are using Target Finder to target an ENERGY STAR score of 85. The building should be completed by 2006.
Communications:
We've taken several steps to share our energy efficiency successes with our employees and community. We keep our employees up-to-date through a daily electronic newsletter and update our upper management through regular management meetings. To tell our community about our performance, we issued a press release and spoke with the local newspaper.
Testimonial:
Poudre Valley Health System's Lemay Campus is proud to have earned the ENERGY STAR. By continually improving our performance through energy-efficient technologies and practices, we are reducing our costs and using the money saved toward our goal of providing innovative, high quality, comprehensive care and exceeding customer expectations.
